Are you really a golden-hour hunter? You have to visit there. It’s one of recommended places to see the sunset. Embung Nglanggeran is a water reservoir which is located on 500 meters above mean sea level, Patuk, Gunung Kidul. You can go there by driving for an hour. From Jogja, go down Jogja-Wonosari st ‘til you find Patuk-Imogiri intersection, turn left. Make sure that your vehicle is in good condition since the road is rocky, so be careful, mainly if you come in the rainy season.

It costs only 3000 rupiahs for the retribution fee per person. You have to climb up the stairs, well it’s kinda tiring honestly, but it’s really worth it since the view that you’ll see on the top is beautiful. Clear water, green scenery and Gunung Api Purba Nglanggeran (it’s an ancient volcano) are such a great harmony for your afternoon.

It’s nice to know that “embung” or water reservoir was created to be an irrigation facilities, but almost all water reservoirs in Yogyakarta have another function; they also become tourist attractions. Other attractive “embung”s in Yogyakarta are Embung Batara Sriten, Embung Mini Kleco, Embung Tambakboyo and many more—of course all of them are worth to visit someday.
